What is the Flamenco Pop Museum?

The Flamenco Pop Museum is a tribute to the invaluable number of Romani artists who created what we call “New Flamenco”. The word "pop" refers to "popular", from the people, and “flamenco pop” refers to its influences from other music genres such as rock, blues, soul, and nowadays even urban rhythms or reggaeton. Today, the media and institutions are conveying the message that Romani people haven’t had a creative or innovative role within flamenco, but Cathy Claret knows the truth. In addition to creating her own music fusion, she has crossed paths with Manzanita, Camarón, or Parrita. She has collaborated with masters such as Pata Negra, Lin Cortés, Aurora Losada or Sorderita and, and she’s the creator of the famous anthem “Bolleré”, popularized by the king of flamenco Raimundo Amador, and the king of blues B.B King. She has fought for the memory of the true identity of our music: the culture of persecuted peoples is a testimony that must not be erased from history. Now, from this museum, she brings us closer to the names and sounds that have renewed flamenco without losing the purity of the experiences and the “quejíos”. If this art is a temple, we Roma are the foundation that maintains it.
